How to convert military time
Military time counts the hours of the day from 00 to 23, so there's no AM or PM. It's written as four digits with no colon: the first two are the hour and the last two are the minutes.
- From 0000 to 1159 (midnight to noon): it's the same as standard time with AM. 0745 is 7:45 AM. For 0000 to 0059, the hour is 12: 0030 is 12:30 AM.
- From 1200 to 1259: it's PM with the same digits. 1215 is 12:15 PM.
- From 1300 to 2359: subtract 12 from the hour and add PM. 1730 → 17 − 12 = 5, so 5:30 PM.

How to say military time
Each pair of digits is read as a number, usually followed by "hours". 0600 is "zero six hundred hours", 1430 is "fourteen thirty hours" and 2000 is "twenty hundred hours". Leading zeros are said out loud: 0805 is "zero eight zero five".
Midnight: 0000 or 2400?
Both are used. 0000 is the start of a day and 2400 is the end of the previous one, so a shift that runs "until 2400" ends at the same moment as "until 0000" the next day. Most time clocks and schedules use 0000 to avoid confusion; the converter accepts 2400 too.
